Ingredients of authentic butter chicken recipe:
For marinating chicken:
- Sour yogurt 1 cup
- Chicken breast 1 kg
- Lemon juice 1.5 tbsp
- Chili powder 1 tsp
- Hot spices 1 tsp
- Cumin powder 2 tsp
- Cinnamon powder 1 tsp
- Black pepper 1 tsp
- Ginger 1/2 tsp
- Salt to taste
For masala gravy:
- Butter 1 tbsp
- Cumin powder 2 tsp
- Garlic cloves 3
- Coriander powder 2 tsp
- Hot spices 1 tsp
- Chili powder 1 tsp
- Heavy cream 1.5 cup
- Tomato sauce 1/2
- Coriander leaves 1/4 cup
Instructions:
- Mix the chicken well with all the ingredients of the marinade and cover it for 1 hour.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Stir in the garlic cloves till it turns brown.
- Then stir in cumin powder, coriander powder, hot spices, chili powder, and salt.
- Add tomato sauce and stir for 15 minutes till thickened.
- Grind the marinated chicken on a stick and grill in an electric oven for 5 minutes.
- If you don’t have an oven cook in a non-stick saucepan over medium heat until the chicken is cooked through.
- Then pour the chicken masala into the gravy pan. Cook for 20 minutes over low heat, adding heavy cream halfway through.
- Pour into a serving dish sprinkle some coriander leaves on top.
Serve:
Serve hot with garlic naan or basmati rice.
